Neteffects has a strong commitment and responsibility to enhance the communities in which we live and work. Through a combination of pro bono IT services, financial contributions and volunteerism, the company supports strategies that bring services to those who would not otherwise have access. Neteffects fosters community involvement efforts at the local and regional levels.

Since 2003 Neteffects has provided fully managed IT services to Variety the Children Charity at no charge. In 2007 Warren Chapman was asked to take on the role of Chairman of Variety –The Children’s Charity Gold Coast – A role he still fills.
Warren Chapman is also Chairman of the Yamaha Jettrek – an annual 700KM Jet Ski ride which in 2008 raised over $160000 for sick and disabled Children in Queensland.

 

Solomon Islands - Peava Village and the Marovo Learning Network

Recently Neteffects have become involved in an amazing community project in the Solomon Islands.

On a remote island 200KM from Honiara there is a pilot program providing internet access to local schools and villages. They have set up one Satellite Internet uplink, then using 2mb wireless links powered by solar panels and batteries they created a wireless mesh across the islands.

These islands have no mains power (let alone no cars, motorbikes, phones etc) so each village is designated a shared laptop or two which is charged 2 hours a day by generator or solar panel. At the main high school there are 8 laptops that work on the same principle. These people have no industry and very little need of industry – they are pretty self sufficient.

They have no way of purchasing new laptops and even donated new laptops attract a 40% duty so it leaves them with no option to use secondhand laptops. The average age of the laptops we worked on while there was 7 years – the type most companies throw away.
